All-American honors for UNG softball and baseball players

By UNG Reports The University of North Georgia softball and baseball programs combined to have four players honored with All-American status following the team’s 2021 Spring seasons.

UNG Track team competes in NCAA Championships

For the first time in program history, UNG’s Track and Field team sent athletes to compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships as Journey Gurley, Bree Hammond and Abigail Kirkland qualified for the event.
The Nighthawks let out a cheer during the team’s second game at the NCAA Division II Softball Championships in Denver, where the team beat Valdosta State 8-4 to stay alive in the tournament.

UNG Softball ends season in NCAA Division II National Championships

After surviving two elimination games, the University of North Georgia softball team saw their season come to a close in a 5-2 loss to No. 24 Biola Friday evening at the NCAA Division II Softball Championships in Denver.
Drew Bodney was the lone first-team representative for Lumpkin on the Region 7 AAA All-Region team. Bodney led the team in goals and will continue his soccer career at Tallulah Falls College.

Boys soccer earns five All-Region honors

The coaches of Region 7 AAA named five players from the LCHS Boys Soccer team to the All-Region team for their performance during the 2021season. Senior striker Dylan Bodney represented the Indians on the First Team while fellow senior Jonah Wade was named Second Team All-Region.

After a rollercoaster ride of a weekend, the No. 2 UNG Softball team battled back from the loser’s side of the bracket to win the Southeast Regional Tournament and claim a spot among the final eight teams in the nation at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship in Denver.

Track team concludes season in State Finals

After a resurgence of a season from LCHS Track in 2021, the team took that energy into the GHSA Track and Field Championships on May 13 where its final five competitors ended their seasons in the State Finals.
The LCHS Football team started 2021 with a win in its spring scrimmage on Wednesday after defeating Johnson High School 54-14. While the win won’t count toward the team’s record in the fall, it will give the team motivation to keep up the hard work this summer.

Lumpkin shines in spring football game

For the first time since the GHSA began allowing teams to schedule spring football scrimmages against other schools again in 2017, the Lumpkin County High School football team took to the field for a live scrimmage against another school when they played Johnson High School last Wednesday, May 12.
