Lumpkin track team embraces underdog status

Whether it’s having a first year head coach, having an extremely young team, or having last season cancelled early before Lumpkin was able to make its mark on the season, the expectations for the LCHS track team were set pretty low by the other teams in the area.

Girls tennis keeps perfect region record

The Lumpkin County girls tennis team continued its unblemished region record on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Gilmer County.

UNG softball team returns to No. 1 ranking

by UNG Athletics The University of North Georgia softball team has been named the No. 1 team in the nation by the NFCA Wednesday. North Georgia captured 12 first place votes, rising one spot from last week’s poll.

Boys soccer breaks through for first win of the season

Scoring chance after scoring chance went by for the Indians with no score. Knowing the importance of the game, a frustrated Ben Orton yelled out from the backline. “This is our season!” he shouted. The team kept pushing, kept creating opportunities and held the momentum.

Girls and boys tennis teams top North Hall

As a perennial power in the region for years, North Hall was circled on the LCHS tennis schedule since the season began. And with Tuesday’s victories by both the boys and girls teams, both teams are off to a successful start to the region season.

As the LCHS Varsity Baseball team prepares for the upcoming region schedule, head coach Jonathan Gastley says this is a team unlike any he’s had in his time at Lumpkin. “It’s just a really unique group,” Gastley said.

Middle school soccer continues winning ways

By Esteban Ramirez / The Nugget The Lumpkin County Middle School boys and girls kicked off their home schedules against Pickens County last week with both teams continuing to be successful.
Freshman phenom Averie Jones changes her shot in mid air to duck under the arms of her defender and put the ball back up for a lay in. Jones led the charge, scoring nine of her 27 points in a wild third quarter that saw the Indians increase their lead from six to 26 en route to a Sweet 16 victory.

Lumpkin girls basketball advances to Final Four

UPDATE: The LCHS girls basketball team has advanced to the Final Four with its 64-55 win over Pierce County in the Elite Eight on Tuesday. The Indians are set to host their Final Four matchup with Cross Creek this Friday, March 5 at the Lumpkin County High School gym.
