Young Lumpkin wrestling squad shows promise in home meet

After losing five state placers from the 2019-2020 LCHS wrestling team, many would assume the Indians would have a down, rebuilding year, putting forth such a young team. However head coach Sean Hage is looking more to reload than rebuild. “I’m really excited about our team,” Hage said.

Girls basketball team battles tough Cherokee squad

An 0-2 week may have put a damper on the LCHS girls basketball team’s early season success, bringing down its overall record to 2-3, but head coach David Dowse says that can be deceiving on the surface. “The average person has no idea what we’ve just done the past two weeks,” Dowse said.

Boys basketball looks to grow from early loss

After jumping out to a 3-0 start to the season, the LCHS boys basketball team’s tough non-region schedule finally caught up to them when they played Class AAAAAAA powerhouse North Forsyth on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to a score of 79-52.
In her first three seasons with the Lady Indians, Isabel Davenport has proven herself to be fearless on the court. The senior will take that fearless style of play to the Nighthawks after graduation.

Boys basketball wins Piedmont College Hardwood Classic

With Thanksgiving break in full swing, the LCHS boys basketball team took no break from their action, winning the Piedmont College Hardwood Classic in dramatic fashion on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

The suffocating Lumpkin defense allowed only 20 points in its tournament finale, walking away with a 2-1 record to start the season.

Girls basketball takes third in season-opening tournament

After falling to one of the top teams in the state on Monday, the LCHS girls basketball team responded in its final game of the Jackson EMC Tipoff Classic at Jefferson High School, dominating the Franklin County Lions to a 57-20 victory to take third place in the season-opening tournament.

Lumpkin softball earns All-Region recognition

The LCHS varsity softball team received high honors after their 2020 State Playoff appearance season when third baseman Lauren English was named Region 7-AAA Player of the Year and six other Lady Indian players were selected for the Region 7-AAA All-Region team.

Football seniors star in final game for Indians

An emotional final night of football marked the end of the LCHS 2020 football season and the final chapter of wearing the Lumpkin purple and gold for five seniors, at least over football pads.
