Girls basketball continues outstanding season

After landing in the No. 2 spot in the state rankings for AAA, the Lumpkin County High School girls basketball team proved they belonged last week with three region wins by a combined score of 235-98, which earned them the No. 1 spot in this week’s official GHSA rankings.

Wrestling team tops North Springs on Senior Night

The LCHS Varsity Wrestlers culminated a season’s worth of ups and downs in their final home match and Senior Night, on Tuesday, January 5 in the Tribe House.

Strong defense helps Indians top West Hall

The Lumpkin County boys basketball team overcame a below average shooting performance to take a wire-to-wire victory over West Hall on Friday by a final score of 54-30. Head coach Michael Parker reiterated to his team the importance of rebounding and defending when the shots aren’t falling.

“Frustrating” and “challenging” are some of the first words that Lumpkin County basketball coaches used when asked to describe the strange and unusual nature of the 2020-2021 high school basketball season. And those challenges may just be getting started.

Basketball teams return to action after holidays

After a nine-day break from the action for the Christmas and New Years holidays, the LCHS basketball teams were back on the court Saturday, Jan. 2, with both boys and girls teams hosting Lakeview Academy.

Girls basketball wins 3 straight at Kelly King Classic

Facing some of the toughest teams in the state, the Lumpkin County High School girls basketball team won three straight games in the Dahlonega-hosted Kelly King Holiday Classic and are headed into the new year on a five-game winning streak.

Wrestling team goes 2-1 during holiday match

The LCHS Wrestling team put in another impressive performance to start the Christmas break, with the team going 2-1 on Tuesday at the Tribe House, despite tired bodies from a busy past month. “The guys were beat up,” said head coach Sean Hage.

Boys basketball grateful for tournament competition

While the originally scheduled Kelly King Holiday Classic, an eight-team tournament hosted at LCHS was highly altered, due to last minute COVID complications, LCHS boys basketball head coach Michael Parker was just happy that his team got to play two of their three scheduled games.

Taking an 11-point deficit into the locker room at halftime, the LCHS boys basketball team struggled in the second half on Friday, falling to rival Dawson County by a score of 80-34.
