Jenkins named Class AAA Athletic Director of the Year

In just his second year as the athletic director (AD) for LCHS, Nicky Jenkins was named the AD of the Year for Class AAA in Georgia by the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association at its recent virtual banquet and awards ceremony.

Senior softball teams return to action

The Seniors of Swing, Lumpkin County’s two senior softball teams the Lumpkin County Miners and the Dahlonega Gold, played their first games since last year when the two squads got together at Field #5 near the Lumpkin County Senior Center for a non-league doubleheader on Friday, May 15.

Kenney repeats as Blitz Soccer Player of the Year

Although her senior season was ended short, LCHS all-time career goal record holder Hope Kenney was named Blitz Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight season thanks in large part to the indelible mark she made on the pitch while playing high school soccer.

Wrestling rule changes approved for next season

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Wrestling Rules Committee met in early April and recommended 11 rules changes which were approved by the NFHS Board of Directors and will take effect during the 2020-2021 wrestling season.
The USDA recently reopened several trails and dispersed camping sites in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest last week and hinted that more areas could open back up in the coming weeks.

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest has reopened select trails and dispersed recreation areas for public use according to reports issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The changes took place May 7.

Lumpkin wrestler Irwin signs with Reinhardt University

Since he first stepped on the wrestling mat at a camp for kids as a rising sixth grader, Sam Irwin was hooked on the sport. “I first started wrestling the summer before I was a sixth grader at Coach Matthews’ camp for kids and was instantly hooked,” said Irwin.
