Although the GHSA will allow intra-squad scrimmages, football teams are still unable to use helmets, shoulder pads, girdles, knee or thigh pads in team workouts. Tackling is also still prohibited.

LC Miners player “Hammering” Harvey Schmedlapp smashes a pitch to the gap for a triple during a Clayton League doubleheader versus the Dahlonega Gold. Schmedlapp finished the day 7-for-7 at the plate with seven runs scored and seven runs batted in with three doubles and two triples.

More COVID restrictions lifted for third week of workouts

Former LCHS basketball standout Jack Howard dribbles past a defender for two points, displaying the skills that helped him become a UNG Nighthawk. Howard, who stepped away from the sport he loved for a short time, will be back on the court for his last year of college eligibility after transferring to Reinhardt University and joining the Eagles’ basketball program.

The GHSA has required that all summer workouts are voluntary and are for conditioning only with no balls or sports specific equipment.

Jim “Junkyard Dog” Ehlers connects for one of his four hits in the first game of a two-game set versus the Franklin Old Bones. Ehlers went 4-for-4 at the plate for Dahonega Gold in game one.
