Sewer fixes underway in downtown area

Two major infrastructure projects totaling $4.8 million are simultaneously taking place in downtown Dahlonega, and at last week’s City Council meeting Mayor JoAnne Taylor asked City Manager Allison Martin for a brief update on the disruptive but necessary improvements.

“No credible threat” was the phrase repeated by school and law enforcement officials Friday morning after a jittery night on social media left many parents concerned and anxious over rumors that Lumpkin County High School had been targeted for a potential attack. Just before 7:15 a.m.

“I love to come down here and look at the old house,” said Herman McDonald as he approached the aging structure sitting on the outskirts of what is now Yahoola Creek Park.

County breaks ground on new water plant

Last Wednesday the Lumpkin County Water & Sewerage Authority hosted a special ground breaking ceremony at the site of the new $19.5 million Cane Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant on Arbor Drive, just off of Lumpkin County Parkway.

The Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta is gearing up for the third facelift of its iconic dome, and Dahlonega will once again be providing some of its own gold to assist in the renovation effort.

Neighbors team up to repair local road

By Keith Murden The Nugget Lumpkin resident Katie Harsbarger recently contacted The Nugget about “an amazing group of neighbors” that have banded together to make much-needed repairs to a section of their shared road deemed ineligible for County maintenance.

Volunteer Pam McCampbell has made a critical difference in the lives of 23 children from 11 families during her eight years of service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in the Enotah region, which includes Lumpkin County.
