Winery to restore farmhouse for future tasting room

Sam Zamarripa and his wife Robin are the proprietors of Doghobble Wine Farm, a new 80-acre winery that just opened in the Dahlonega Plateau AVA (American Viticultural Area) in mid-June.

A plan by the Georgia Department of Transportation to install pole-mounted, flashing safety signs on Highway 19 North approaching Summit Drive from both directions ran into an unexpected road block at the County’s July work session.

Old McDonald house poses plenty of historical questions

Everyone knows that old McDonald had a farm in Dahlonega. Now the question is: “Who built it?”  Retired Dahlonega Postmaster Jimmy Anderson believes that Reverend William Thomas may have built the house situated in what is now Yahoola Creek Park, not Captain Jesse McDonald.

Whataburger is officially open for business and serving up orders in Dahlonega. Just ask Steve Smith. The University of North Georgia Psychological Science professor was the first customer to enjoy the historic first burger at the new Morrison Moore Parkway fast food eatery.

New pool and recreation center opens in Lumpkin County

Water slides. A lazy river. All in Lumpkin County. This long awaited goal became a reality last weekend when the Pinetree Recreation Center opened its doors to the public.
