It’s official. After several false starts, former Lumpkin County Manager Stan Kelley is finally retiring from public service. Kelley spent three-plus decades as an employee of Lumpkin County, the last 16 as County Manager.

Local block party turns chaotic

Weil left Lumpkin community a brighter place

Fred Weil worked hard to serve others. But he didn’t work hard to stay in the spotlight. “He did so, so much,” said his daughter Katie Sessions. “And even I didn’t know.” The 78-year-old Weil died Aug.19, 2021, following his wife Bonnie’s death last summer.

The Dahlonega Nugget is giving away a Dahlonega nugget. And this one’s not made of newspaper. “This one's solid gold,” said Publisher Matt Aiken. “It was panned from a stream in Dahlonega and the folks at Consolidated Gold Mine says it's worth about $500.

A debate on how to best spend the $6.5 million of American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds allocated to Lumpkin County turned heated during Wednesday’s Special Called Meeting as commissioners argued about which eligible uses best serve the community.
