The Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a resolution naming the Commissioners Boardroom in honor of the late Dr. David Miller, who served as commissioner over District 1 until his passing earlier this year, at its recent meeting on Tuesday, September 21.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved that, in honor of Dr. David J. Miller’s selfless dedication to Lumpkin County and the community, the Commissioners’ Boardroom is hereby dedicated and named the Dr. David J. Miller Commissioners’ Boardroom,” the resolution reads.
The boardroom, located at 99 Courthouse Hill, is where the Board of Commissioners holds its meetings and work sessions.
With his family in attendance, the board unveiled a plaque to hang at the entrance to the boardroom memorializing the former commissioner for his service, both on the board and in the community through other organizations.
“Whereas, Dr. Miller was involved in numerous aspects of the community, including serving as the Chair of the Lumpkin County Republican Party, Vice Chair of the Holly Theatre Board of Directors, Treasurer of the Friends of the Dahlonega Gold Museum, and member of the Enotah CASA Board,” the resolution reads.
Miller served the community as Commissioner over Lumpkin’s District 1 for just over four years, beginning in January of 2017. Board Chairman Chris Dockery said he counts that time shared with Miller as an honor.
“It’s certainly an honor to have his family with us tonight and it was certainly an honor to serve our community with Dr. Miller,” Dockery said in the meeting.
