A case of mistaken identity has resulted in the wrongful arrest of a local woman by the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. Sheila Dwelly, 68, of Dahlonega was taken into custody last Tuesday and charged with two counts of theft by shoplifting after warrants were issued by Judge Dyann Beaty.

There will be no roadblocks standing in the way of back to school traffic this week. The intersection at Oak Grove and Highway 19 should open in time for the big day on Thursday, August 5th. For now, the stop sign at the end of Oak Grove will return, while Highway Business 19 will open for traffic.

Mail in the jail isn’t always what it seems. What appears to be a harmless letter from a friend has the potential to contain cleverly concealed contraband, according to Sheriff Stacy Jarrard. “A lot of jails in the state of Georgia are getting mail sent to them that’s laced with drugs,” he said.
