The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the sports world hard for both young and old. High school, middle school and Parks & Rec sports were cancelled after rising concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.

Lumpkin wrestler Irwin signs with Reinhardt University

Since he first stepped on the wrestling mat at a camp for kids as a rising sixth grader, Sam Irwin was hooked on the sport. “I first started wrestling the summer before I was a sixth grader at Coach Matthews’ camp for kids and was instantly hooked,” said Irwin.

Local girls wrestler wins third state title

When Allie Procter was just five-years-old she made history when she became the first female wrestler to ever win the Youth Georgia State Championship title. That was 2017.

Youth Wrestling Club enjoys successful year

Lumpkin County Youth Wrestling Club coach and former LCHS standout wrestler Tristin Duckworth will tell anyone who will listen just how successful the team’s 2019 season went. “The season was nothing short of spectacular,” said Duckworth. “I am proud of every kid on the team.
