Senior softball teams return to action

The Seniors of Swing, Lumpkin County’s two senior softball teams the Lumpkin County Miners and the Dahlonega Gold, played their first games since last year when the two squads got together at Field #5 near the Lumpkin County Senior Center for a non-league doubleheader on Friday, May 15.

Although her senior season was ended short, LCHS all-time career goal record holder Hope Kenney was named Blitz Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second straight season thanks in large part to the indelible mark she made on the pitch while playing high school soccer.

Wrestling rule changes approved for next season

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Wrestling Rules Committee met in early April and recommended 11 rules changes which were approved by the NFHS Board of Directors and will take effect during the 2020-2021 wrestling season.

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest has reopened select trails and dispersed recreation areas for public use according to reports issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The changes took place May 7.
