In his 21 years in Lumpkin County, Girls Soccer head coach Don Brock has spent countless hours on the pitch. Yet on Tuesday, the coach didn’t want to see one more minute of soccer, mostly for the sake of his blood pressure. “I’m just so glad that we didn’t have to go to PKs again,” Brock said.

The Lumpkin County High School Golf teams defeated Fannin on Tuesday in a home match at Achasta Golf Course, with the boys taking the win 189-236 and the girls winning 160-169.

The LCHS Boys Soccer team had a difficult night on the pitch on Tuesday, falling 6-0 to East Forsyth at home. Despite the tough result, head coach Bill Madigan said there were still positives to take away from the night overall.

The senior-laden LCHS Girls Tennis team took care of business on its senior night against Dawson on Tuesday, winning 3-2 over Dawson and celebrating the success of the senior class in style. In the words of head coach Paul Hoch, it’s the only way this class was meant to be celebrated.

Track team soars above competition in home meet

The LCHS Track team dominated in its only home meet of the year against Gilmer County on Tuesday to continue a run of success for the team. Head coach Will Mayfield said that hosting track meets and then doing well in them was a point of emphasis for him since the beginning.

After facing a huge deficit, down 3-0 with 20 minutes against White County in a game that will likely go a long way toward determining how the region shakes out, the Lumpkin County High School girls soccer team battled back to take the game in dramatic fashion.

The LCHS Rifle team’s undefeated regular season in a lot of ways mirrors the very dominant run the team had last year. However, this year, the Indians took care of a bit of unfinished business that had been haunting them for the last four years, winning the elusive Area 6 trophy.

The Lumpkin County Girls Soccer team battled through physical play and the elements to bring home two region wins last week to keep on pace to its goal of winning a region championship.
Setting records all the way, the Lumpkin County Girls Basketball team, with an overall record of 30-1, completed its mission by winning the GHSA State Championship in Macon on Friday, defeating GAC in the final seconds, 51-47.
