After facing a huge deficit, down 3-0 with 20 minutes against White County in a game that will likely go a long way toward determining how the region shakes out, the Lumpkin County High School girls soccer team battled back to take the game in dramatic fashion.
The Indians scored three unanswered goals to steal all momentum and tie the game 3-3.
With neither team able to get the final goal needed to seal the deal in regulation or the two overtime periods, the game went to penalty kicks where the Indians won to take the pivotal game.
The win keeps Lumpkin’s undefeated region record intact at 4-0 and improves its overall record to 12-2-1 on the season heading into Tuesday’s matchup with East Forsyth.
The Indians have another crucial match against Cherokee Bluff on Friday, March 25 that could decide the region.
BOYS TEAM
Heading into halftime down 1-0, the LCHS Boys Soccer team came out of the locker room with new life, battling back to a 3-1 win to claim its first region win of the season against White County on Friday.
With a couple of goals from Nicolas Esqueda and one from Will Routhier, Lumpkin shocked the Warriors with its second half attack.
The win gives the Indians some much needed momentum heading into its remaining region schedule.
The Indians are set to take on Cherokee Bluff on Friday, March 25.
