The City of Dahlonega has signed off on a plan that will replace all 32 of its vehicles within the next four years in what was presented as a money-saving move that required quick action, and a special called meeting, by the council.

When Greg Sheppard began researching the history of Dahlonega’s Consolidated Gold Mine, it was mostly to  find the answers to questions he received from tourists. After he retired, he found that becoming a tour guide at the local landmark was a pastime that he enjoyed.
Mark Robinson said he's seen all kinds of non-recyclables thrown into the big blue bins at Barlow Road transfer station lately. This, he said, has led to the dumping of many "contaminated" loads.

After months of work, The Dahlonega Nugget has its very own mural. The new work of art, painted on the side of the Nugget building, features a miner panning for gold, the Nugget slogan “The Gold of the News”, and an inkwell.

The Development Authority of Lumpkin County and Yahoola Outdoors hosted a ribbon cutting event officially opening a new section of trail at the Yahoola Creek Reservoir in celebration of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4.

In the event of an emergency, the officers of the Dahlonega and UNG Police Departments will officially have each others backs. That was the idea behind a Dahlonega City Council“memorandum of understanding” which was officially approved at last week’s meeting.

What could be more fun to see than high-flying disc dogs in the park? Not much, according to Dahlonega resident Rick Nielsen, owner of four Border Collies and a coordinator of competitions for Southeast Disc Dogs.

One minute, Nikoli Smith was two weeks from graduating high school and setting his sights on the next step, continuing his education and singing career at the University of Georgia. And then, in an instant, the focus became surviving to be able to take a literal next step.
