New business owner looks to build on local tradition

A well-known local construction business is under new leadership.  Appalachian Contracting Services, started by Jim and Nancy Combs in 1988, has a new owner, as Beau Hughes recently took over at the local company.

Dog shooting results in felony charge

A local man is facing a felony charge, with more charges possibly on the way, after he reportedly shot two of his neighbor’s dogs last week.

During the first regular meeting under new Superintendent of Schools Sharon Head, the Lumpkin County School Board approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $2,408,636 for long-awaited renovations to the roof and HVAC system of Blackburn Elementary School.
