Sudden solar storm lights up the night

The Northern Lights put on a southern show over the weekend as a solar storm lit up the night above Dahlonega and beyond. It was an ultra-rare astronomical event that took many by surprise, as waves of pinkish light illuminated the darkened skies as far south as Florida.

University of North Georgia sophomore student Emilyn Slemons has been selected as one of only eight students to earn a spot on the prestigious Fulbright Summer Institute Program at Aberystwyth University in Wales, U.K.

With early voting already underway in the county, two of the three candidates for District 2 Commissioner huddled last Tuesday at the public library meeting room for a debate hosted by the Lumpkin County Democrats.  Incumbent Commissioner Dr.

Early voting is now officially underway in Primary

Week One of Early Voting is in the books.  As of Wednesday, May 8, a total of 1,324 ballots have been cast in the race that will ultimately decide a variety of local offices including the Lumpkin County Sheriff, County Chairman and District 2 County Commissioner.
