Both Lumpkin County High School soccer teams saw a successful start to region competition last week as each team came away with victories over Gilmer. The girls continued their streak picking up a 5-0 win over Gilmer.

Wrestlers succeed at USA State Championships

The Lumpkin County wrestling team had several athletes compete in USA Wrestling’s State Championship tournament in Perry, Georgia, on Sunday, March 3. Several athletes were able to come away with podium finishes, and the Indians ultimately crowned a new USA Wrestling State Champion.

The Lumpkin County Mountain Bike Team had an impressive showing at the Southern Cross race last weekend in Dahlonega.

Montaluce Winery hosted the annual Mountain Goat Adventures Southern Cross bike race on Saturday. The event attracted over 200 Junior and adult racers from all around with a common goal of completing the 30-mile junior or 50-mile adult race.

The Lumpkin High School baseball team had a successful outing this week, picking up an 8-1 win over Fannin County and coming up just short to Dalton 2-1. The Tribe moves to 2-4 overall and looks ahead to what is yet to come.

Rifle team victorious in Sectionals

The Lumpkin County High School rifle team competed in their postseason sectionals against South Paulding this week. With the home range advantage, the Indians came out on top 1146-1092 and will advance to the next round of sectionals.

Boys basketball season comes to end in state Sweet 16

The Lumpkin County High School basketball team saw a great run this year, but their season reached its conclusion in the Sweet 16 round of the state playoffs. The Indians picked up a big win over Ridgeland to advance to the Sweet 16 round with a 57-37 victory over the Panthers.

Lumpkin County’s Greta Garbuzovas won her second State Championship as a sophmore. Nathan Nielsen won his second State Championship as a junior.
