Basketball teams return to action after holidays

After a nine-day break from the action for the Christmas and New Years holidays, the LCHS basketball teams were back on the court Saturday, Jan. 2, with both boys and girls teams hosting Lakeview Academy.

Girls basketball wins 3 straight at Kelly King Classic

Facing some of the toughest teams in the state, the Lumpkin County High School girls basketball team won three straight games in the Dahlonega-hosted Kelly King Holiday Classic and are headed into the new year on a five-game winning streak.

Wrestling team goes 2-1 during holiday match

The LCHS Wrestling team put in another impressive performance to start the Christmas break, with the team going 2-1 on Tuesday at the Tribe House, despite tired bodies from a busy past month. “The guys were beat up,” said head coach Sean Hage.

Boys basketball grateful for tournament competition

While the originally scheduled Kelly King Holiday Classic, an eight-team tournament hosted at LCHS was highly altered, due to last minute COVID complications, LCHS boys basketball head coach Michael Parker was just happy that his team got to play two of their three scheduled games.

Lumpkin boys basketball team battles rival Dawson

Taking an 11-point deficit into the locker room at halftime, the LCHS boys basketball team struggled in the second half on Friday, falling to rival Dawson County by a score of 80-34.

Young Lumpkin wrestling squad shows promise in home meet

After losing five state placers from the 2019-2020 LCHS wrestling team, many would assume the Indians would have a down, rebuilding year, putting forth such a young team. However head coach Sean Hage is looking more to reload than rebuild. “I’m really excited about our team,” Hage said.
Despite having a phenomenal season on the volleyball court for the Lady Indians, senior MaKenzie Caldwell had to settle for third place when Blitz’s Volleyball Player of the Year award was announced for 2020.

Lady Indians player MaKenzie Caldwell’s impressive 2020 season with the LCHS varsity volleyball team wasn’t enough to stave off Tallulah Falls’ Katy Corbett  from winning the Blitz Volleyball Player of the Year award in back-to-back seasons when the final votes were tallied and announced recently.

Girls basketball team battles tough Cherokee squad

An 0-2 week may have put a damper on the LCHS girls basketball team’s early season success, bringing down its overall record to 2-3, but head coach David Dowse says that can be deceiving on the surface. “The average person has no idea what we’ve just done the past two weeks,” Dowse said.

Boys basketball looks to grow from early loss

After jumping out to a 3-0 start to the season, the LCHS boys basketball team’s tough non-region schedule finally caught up to them when they played Class AAAAAAA powerhouse North Forsyth on Tuesday, Dec. 1, to a score of 79-52.
