Senior Amma Johnson slams a pitch through the infield for a base hit late in Lumpkin’s 8-2 win over Gilmer County on Friday. With Johnson’s leadoff hit to start the inning, her teammates were able to push her across to start another big inning for the Indians and add some insurance to their lead.

The LCHS Football team kicked off their home opener on Friday Night against Chamblee High School, dropping the game 54-7. Now the team looks to get healthy and take advantage of its off week.

Coming out with an unmatched energy, the Indians started out strong in their match against North Forsyth during the Coal Mountain Tournament. Despite falling to the Raiders in straight sets, the Indians proved competitive with the AAAAAAA team, playing some of their best volleyball of the season in the match.

Despite the disappointing start to the season, the team came through with the pressure on to claim its first win of the season against White County, remaining undefeated in region play to begin the year.

While not the final result head coach Caleb Sorrells wanted, he contends that it was “a different loss” than last year’s 33-3 blowout defeat at the hands of the same Franklin County Lions, showing a glimpse of his team’s improvement.

Head Coach Caleb Sorrells said his team starts and ends with the play of his veteran line this season, as the entire starting line from last season returned to the team in 2021.

The LCHS Cross Country team is ready to make a postseason run behind its senior leadership and a strong incoming freshmen class. With both teams narrowly missing out on qualifying for the state meet last season, the group is more hungry than ever to find success.
