After a comeback win against Chestatee High School to begin the night and a dominant first set and a half against White County, it seemed to be smooth sailing to a sweep for the LCHS Volleyball. And then suddenly, it wasn’t.

The second annual University of North Georgia’s Tennis Pro-Am wrapped up over the weekend in perfect weather, with 16 men and 10 women joining UNG tennis players in friendly competition, to support the tennis program.

Taking on a crucial week that saw the Indians do battle in four region games, the LCHS Softball team split the week 2-2, ending the stretch with an emphatic 8-2 win over Gilmer County to get back on track.

On a night where few things went right for the Indians, late in the game the team received one lucky bounce that made for a wholesome moment of celebration.

Despite falling to the Raiders in straight sets, the Indians proved competitive with the AAAAAAA team, playing some of their best volleyball of the season in the match.

After an 0-5 start to the season, head coach Haley Dibble was beginning to wonder if she was the right coach for her star-studded team, fresh off a Region Championship and Sweet 16 berth.

Cross Country begins season with strong showing

The Lumpkin County High School Cross Country team started its season out strong at the Run to the Hills meet at Meek’s Park in Blairsville on Thursday, August 19, highlighted by a first place showing from the boys team to claim the trophy.
While not the final result head coach Caleb Sorrells wanted, he contends that it was “a different loss” than last year’s 33-3 blowout defeat at the hands of the same Franklin County Lions, showing a glimpse of his team’s improvement.
