Lumpkin track team sending 13 to Sectionals

The Lumpkin County High School Track team is set to send a record-number of athletes to the state sectionals after a solid performance at the Region 7 AAA track and field championships last Thursday and Friday at Cherokee Bluff High School.

Girls soccer wins first two rounds in state tournament

After a six-hour trip to Blackshear to face Pierce County, the LCHS Girls Soccer team finds itself headed to the Elite Eight thanks to a 3-0 win over the Bears on Monday night. Following the win, head coach Don Brock said he’s feeling good about where his team stands in the tournament.

With his team’s victory last Monday, April 11, Lumpkin County High School baseball head coach Jonathan Gastley eclipsed the 200-win mark with Lumpkin’s 6-2 win over Gilmer County on Monday. But for Gastley, the milestone victory was more about his team getting the victory.
Lumpkin’s five eligible to score shooters (from left) Rebecca Chester, Jake Gary, Joshua Molina, Liv Lusky and Maddy Moyer each take on the standing position, known to be the hardest of the three shooting positions. Head coach Ruthanne Conner said she felt this position is where her team separated itself from the opponents in its semifinal victory to send the team to the state finals.

Rifle team to compete in GHSA State Championship

The LCHS Rifle team is once again headed for the GHSA State Championship after a thrashing of Benjamin E. Mays High School in the Tournament Semifinals, 1,155 to 1,050 where two Lumpkin shooters scored over 290 out of 300 possible points.

The Lumpkin County High School Boys Tennis team is set to make a return to the State Tournament after a win over East Forsyth in the Region Tournament on March 29 put the team in the Top 4 for Region 7 AAA.

Girls soccer tops East Forsyth in second overtime

In his 21 years in Lumpkin County, Girls Soccer head coach Don Brock has spent countless hours on the pitch. Yet on Tuesday, the coach didn’t want to see one more minute of soccer, mostly for the sake of his blood pressure. “I’m just so glad that we didn’t have to go to PKs again,” Brock said.

The Lumpkin County High School Golf teams defeated Fannin on Tuesday in a home match at Achasta Golf Course, with the boys taking the win 189-236 and the girls winning 160-169.

The LCHS Boys Soccer team had a difficult night on the pitch on Tuesday, falling 6-0 to East Forsyth at home. Despite the tough result, head coach Bill Madigan said there were still positives to take away from the night overall.
