Group pushes for 2nd Amendment sanctuary ordinance

With nearly 1,000 signatures already delivered to the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners in support of adoption of a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance, the American Patriots USA group is holding a “muster call to action” on Saturday to get more names on the dotted line.

Animal shelter manager thinks outside the cage

Faithful readers of The Nugget may have noticed that the Pet of the Week section, which showcases adoptable dogs and cats from the local animal shelters, has been missing its representative cat or dog from the Lumpkin County Animal Shelter several times this winter.

ANNE AMERSON—Goodbye to a beloved author

A wealth of talent and knowledge was lost to Lumpkin County with the passing of Elizabeth “Anne” Dismukes Amerson. The local historian and author died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, following declining health. “I didn’t know Anne well. I knew Amos [Anne’s husband] from the Cooper-Green Men’s Prayer Group.

As computer scientists representing 532 universities across the United States competed to crack the latest NSA Codebreaker challenge, UNG proved to be a consistent force in the world of cyber security by winning the competition outright after finishing third last year.
