E-SPLOST earmarked for possible new elementary school

A new elementary school, buses and even band instruments are a few of the wide-ranging items Lumpkin County residents will have the chance to authorize if they cast a vote for the continuation of the existing E-SPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) on the March 24, 2020 ballot.

After eight years of service, the Dahlonega city council said goodbye to one of its longtime members when councilman Bruce Hoffman took part in his final meeting as a council member on Monday, Dec. 2.

Last week’s Public Hearing on changes to the Gateway Corridor Regulations was sparsely attended. But there were several questions and issues people brought up, and commissioners met Tuesday (before The Nugget’s deadline) to "just go through it again,” said County Manager Stan Kelley.

Forest land plan could impact 157K acres

The future of the Chattahoochee National Forest can be found in a 200-page report recently released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. It’s an extensive plan that proposes everything from the creation of new trails on Bull Mountain to the clear cut logging of 1,700 wooded acres.
