Jail shakedown leads to drug bust

Inside information and a surprise shakedown at the Lumpkin County Detention Center were key in the recent arrests of several inmates and outside suspects accused of a gang-related conspiracy to sneak methamphetamine into the downtown jail, said officials with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

COVID-19: Lumpkin adds two deaths as case count increases

COVID-19 stats continued to rise in Lumpkin County last week. Confirmed cases of coronavirus, as reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health, increased from 809 to 881, as of Monday. Hospitalizations went up from 83 to 88 last week according to the DPH numbers.

Some folks just complain about the traffic. Tom Dyer does something about it. And in 2013 that’s exactly what happened. It was then that the local retired emergency worker set out to raise the red flag about the potential for pile-ups at the Stone Pile intersection.
