Downtown tree likely to get the axe

The big pecan tree on East Main Street is officially coming down, according to discussion at the city council's recent work session. But the spot won’t be empty for long, said Mayor JoAnne Taylor. “Arborists recommended removal and considered the tree dangerous,” she said.

Dog Days of Dahlonega section now available

The newest Dog Days of Dahlonega special section is on newsstands this week as part of The Dahlonega Nugget. This dog-friendly edition will help feed and shelter local animals in need as a portion of the proceeds from the section will go to the local TLC Humane Society.

Liquor store license awarded by city

Dahlonega’s very first distilled spirits package store license has been awarded to Sonika Ahluwalia, owner of Gold Rush Spirits, LLC. City attorney Doug Parks presented a motion for the council to award the city license at last Monday’s meeting, but that’s not the only motion needed to open.
