Rhett Stringer’s plan to bring a riverside restaurant to the banks of the Chestatee is a couple steps closer to reality now that the City of Dahlonega has granted a crucial pair of variance requests for the local business owner and Lumpkin County Commissioner.

The 9th Annual Spaghetti Supper doesn’t provide a meal for the homeless population per se. It raises money that goes into the budget of Jeremiah’s Place, Lumpkin County’s transitional housing program for homeless families.

Local chainsaw artist Devonte Young gave spectators a live demonstration of his technique at Bear on the Square. Young was tapped to create a commemorative statue using wood from the felled sycamore tree that a black bear unexpectedly scaled back in 1996, kick-starting the popular annual festival.

A Dahlonega man is accused of stealing a stove from a vacant home on Martins Ford Road and then returning to burn that home to the ground on the same day, according to officials with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. Walter McCrary Jr.

The Dahlonega City Council raised a figurative glass to the Bear on the Square fest last week as they unanimously agreed to loosen alcohol beverage restrictions for the upcoming downtown event.
The inaugural Grocery Grand Prix was not only an action-packed event but a profitable fundraiser for the Community Helping Place Food Bank on Saturday. The competition was originally scheduled to take place on the Lumpkin County High School track but moved indoors to the cafeteria due to weather, which made for some tight turns and raucous racing.
