The Lumpkin County School System’s Transportation Department has once again earned high marks from state inspectors for the organization and cleanliness of its school bus maintenance facility.

A wild chase across county lines resulted in minor injuries and major charges for a Chatsworth man last Monday.

Gold Museum ready to welcome visitors for free ‘Super Museum Sunday’

The Dahlonega Gold Museum on the downtown square will be offering free admission, and a golden opportunity, to all visitors this weekend as part of the Georgia History Festival’s “Super Museum Sunday” event.

Dahlonega Literary Festival will return March 4

After a two-year absence during the COVID pandemic, the Dahlonega Literary Festival (DLF) is back and fully “booked.” No pun intended. There will be 38 authors appearing in panel discussions, selling their newest books and speaking with fans up close and personal from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hard-working custodian keeps school sparkling

Denny Tolbert, Head Custodian at Lumpkin County Elementary School, has maintained a clean and safe learning environment for Dahlonega’s youngest students for nearly two decades. “This April will be 19 years,” Tolbert confirmed in an interview with The Nugget.

Surging food costs cause concerns for families

It’s no secret that the price of food has gone up significantly in the past year, and it's creating a problem with food insecurity in the community. As of Monday, the price of one pound of ground beef in Dahlonega is around $4.00. A gallon of milk came in at nearly $4.00 as well.

Downtown Dahlonega has re-claimed some of its historical charm as a new business embraced the features of its property from days-gone-by. What was once a place where folks could buy a new Ford many decades ago is now the newest eatery on the Public Square in Dahlonega.

Downtown Dahlonega sycamores chopped

Two large sycamore trees located in front of the historic Sargent Building in downtown Dahlonega were chopped down limb by limb on Friday, after further signs of deterioration triggered renewed safety concerns among city officials.
