It looks like Lumpkin County Commissioners are planning to give both unincorporated and incorporated taxpayers an early Christmas gift this year.

School taxes could go up

It’s the lowest millage rate since 2011, said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rob Brown, but property owners will be paying more in taxes when the bills go out later this year. Brown is proposing not using the rollback rate this year.

Qualifying for candidates wishing to run in the 2019 Municipal Election for Dahlonega City Council Post, 4, Post 5 and Post 6 will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019 and continue day to day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Qualifying will end at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019.

Tax Commissioner won't seek re-election

Lumpkin County Tax Commissioner Rachel Pruitt’s mind is already made up. Her name will not appear on next year’s ballot. “I know in my heart it’s time to turn the reigns over,” she said. Pruitt spent the last 30 years in the tax and tag office—the last 10 as Commissioner.

Murder case ends with life sentence

MONDAY Anthropology presentations at next Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild meeting

The Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild meeting August 14 will host two speakers on very different topics. Both are advanced graduate students in Anthropology at Georgia State University in Atlanta.  Since both are fresh out of the field, they will be sharing the “latest news” from the past.

Jarrard on the move as new Sheriffs' Association president

Sheriff Stacy Jarrard was officially sworn in as the new president for the Georgia Sheriffs' Association late last month. And he soon realized, the clock is ticking. “I only get to serve until next July,” he said.
