Camp Merrill to be featured on Small Town Big Deal TV show

Co-hosts Rodney Miller and Jann Carl will feature Camp Merrill on the show “Small Town Big Deal.” The episode will highlight the history of the U.S. Army Ranger camp and the training. The episode was filmed earlier this year.

by Matt Aiken & Aubrie Brooks  —  University of North Georgia staff and students have been alerted of the approaching controversy on the Public Square. And while school officials have declined to comment on the looming rally that will take place September 14, several students were eager to weigh in.

Soldier returns to warm welcome

Concord at Dahlonega recently welcomed home one of their own, along with some of his fellow 48th Georgia National Guard service men and women. He's 2nd Lt. Edgar Rojas, a Lumpkin County High School graduate and JROTC cadet commissioned from the University of North Georgia in 2017.

Whether you plan to hit the Appalachian Trail this fall or just enjoy being outdoors, the Dahlonega Trail Fest is a yearly favorite for anyone that ever aims to feel one with nature. This year's 9th annual Trail Fest will begin Friday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. and run through 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Tax Commissioner says ‘Pay up or face fines’

Tax Commissioner says ‘Pay up or face fines’

Lumpkin County Tax Commissioner Rachel Pruitt said she is "making notice." And the target is a list of tardy tax payers. “If you have a non-homesteaded mobile home on your property and it does not have a 2019 decal, you are liable to make an appearance in Magistrate Court and pay a fine," she said.

City budget set for adoption at next meeting

City of Dahlonega residents should expect to see a decrease in their property taxes and few, if any, increases in service fees when the city council votes to approve the FY 2020 budget at its next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
