It's almost time. In a few weeks the dark veil surrounding the outside of the Price Memorial steeple on UNG's Dahlonega campus will come down to reveal all the hard work that has gone into restoring the top of the historic building.

Valor Quilters offer seasonal salute

It’s going to look like Christmas this Friday, July 26, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at The Common Thread, Dahlonega’s certified quilting shop. Located at 598 North Grove Street, the shop opened in 2008 with the mission of “meeting the needs of quilters and sewers in North Georgia,” said owner Shannon Caldwell.

Eleven competitors, 10 minutes, 4,350 calories, but only one champion. Locals and visitors alike packed around Chastain Southern Catering and Outback Cafe to watch or partake in Dahlonega’s inaugural Fourth of July hot dog eating contest on Thursday.

When a customer pulled out a semi-automatic pistol at the counter of the Highway 60 Dollar General last Sunday evening, the on-duty cashier’s first reaction was disbelief. “Due to the community being like it is, the lady said she at first thought, ‘Are you kidding me?'” said Sheriff Stacy Jarrard.
