Austin Todd Stryker was expected to return to Lumpkin County on Tuesday for the first time since he allegedly fled the state following the murder of 21-year-old Dahlonega resident Hannah Bender, according to officials. “It’s expected sometime today,” said Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard.
The Iron Mountain Park crew took up most of the two front rows at last week’s SLUA (Special Land Use Approval) hearing, but residents attending were far less than at previous meetings concerning the park. Lumpkin County High School consistently beats the state when it comes to graduation rates. This year it beat its own highest percentage since 2015, with a rate of 95.54 percent. For high school principal Billy Kirk, that was the magic number to reach when he came here a little over two years ago.
