Tax Commissioner won't seek re-election

Lumpkin County Tax Commissioner Rachel Pruitt’s mind is already made up. Her name will not appear on next year’s ballot. “I know in my heart it’s time to turn the reigns over,” she said. Pruitt spent the last 30 years in the tax and tag office—the last 10 as Commissioner.

Murder case ends with life sentence

MONDAY Anthropology presentations at next Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild meeting

The Blue Ridge Archaeology Guild meeting August 14 will host two speakers on very different topics. Both are advanced graduate students in Anthropology at Georgia State University in Atlanta.  Since both are fresh out of the field, they will be sharing the “latest news” from the past.

Jarrard on the move as new Sheriffs' Association president

Sheriff Stacy Jarrard was officially sworn in as the new president for the Georgia Sheriffs' Association late last month. And he soon realized, the clock is ticking. “I only get to serve until next July,” he said.

The once empty hospital building on the hill has been bustling the past three weeks. After being closed for a year, the newly named Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin opened its doors on July 16 to once again serve the residents of Dahlonega.
