Tax Commissioner won't seek re-election

Lumpkin County Tax Commissioner Rachel Pruitt’s mind is already made up. Her name will not appear on next year’s ballot. “I know in my heart it’s time to turn the reigns over,” she said. Pruitt spent the last 30 years in the tax and tag office—the last 10 as Commissioner.

Murder case ends with life sentence

Robin Black has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after she publicly confessed to the felony murder of her husband Larry Black in a crowded courtroom last Friday morning. Jarrard on the move as new Sheriffs' Association president

Sheriff Stacy Jarrard was officially sworn in as the new president for the Georgia Sheriffs' Association late last month. And he soon realized, the clock is ticking. “I only get to serve until next July,” he said.

After being closed for a year, the newly named Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin opened its doors on July 16.

Teachers at Lumpkin County’s elementary schools are busy decorating doorways and placing names on cubbies while also preparing lesson plans.

Lumpkin County Magistrate’s office was one of many in the state to be hit with a ransomware attack. The incident is being investigated by the FBI.
