Special to The Nugget by James Wright  —————  The Lumpkin County High School Rifle Team competed in the GHSA State Championships on March 14 and 15th at the Ware County Shooting Sports Complex in Waycross. Only 17 teams out of 109 make it to the competition.

The Lumpkin County High School baseball team slid head first into regional competition this week as they took on Chestatee. The series ended with the Indians picking up three straight wins moving to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in regional competition.

After a very successful State Playoff run last season the Lumpkin County High School tennis team is back at it again. Last week the Indians faced off with North Hall and Region rivals Dawson. The team started their week on Tuesday, March 4 against the Trojans. The squad defeated North Hall 3-2.

It was a very special night for the Lumpkin County High School baseball team on Monday as they hosted Flowery Branch on their Senior Night. The game saw a very gutsy performance by the Indians where they battled back from being down 12-10 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Both Lumpkin County High School soccer teams picked up wins last week. The Indians hosted Banks County on Thursday and Franklin County on Friday. The Lady Indians ended their week with two wins, while the guys split their games 1-1.

The Lumpkin County High School baseball team rolled past Towns County on Friday and Fannin County on Saturday afternoon to improve to a 5-0 start to the season. The Indians made short work of Towns County, but hit a wall when they squared off against the Rebels.

Boys soccer team battles early adversity to start season

Soccer season saw its official kickoff this week as the Lumpkin County High School varsity team hosted East Forsyth and Gainesville. The team fell short in both games, succumbing to East Forsyth 4-0 and Gainesville 4-2.
On the soccer field, Assistant Coach Ethan Pierce, Head Coach Cas Alldred and Abi Hunt take the reins as the girls team’s new coaching staff.
