Youth shelter campus now on the way

Northern Star, a local non-profit organization serving 13 counties in Georgia since 2016, is expanding its operations to include a new campus off of Dawsonville Highway in Dahlonega.

Donkeys find new herd with non-profit

Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills just outside of Dahlonega is a very special place where abused and neglected donkeys can find a loving ‘forever home’: Healing Herds Sanctuary. The 10-acre facility on Old Federal Road, located just off of Hwy.

Representatives from the City and the Downtown Development Authority gathered on Monday for the ribbon-cutting at the newly-renovated Head House. On hand to unveil the DDA’s new headquarters to the public were (from left) City Manager Allison Martin, Councilman Lance Bagley, Mayor JoAnne Taylor, DDA Chair Amy Thrailkill, DDA Director Ariel Alexander, Main Street Manager Skyler Alexander, and Councilman Ron Larson.

Historic home new hub of downtown development

A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday afternoon marked the grand opening of the relocated and renovated Head House near the downtown square. The historic home was constructed by Dr. Homer Head in 1909 with wood salvaged from the original Dahlonega Baptist Church, which was built back in 1841.

City council members are pondering going in a different direction on the frequently traveled one-way road of Enota Street in downtown Dahlonega. “It was made into a one-way street and was formally a two-way street,” said Mayor JoAnne Taylor at last month’s meeting.

The Lumpkin County varsity basketball squads had a busy week as the Indians played on the road against Region 7-AAA foes West Hall and Gilmer.  The girls team got things started against West Hall and came away with a dominant win over the Spartans.
