It’s one of the most fun-filled days of the year in Dahlonega.
On Tuesday locals and visitors from around the Northeast Georgia area will come to town to celebrate The Fourth of July.
An entire day of family-friendly activities is planned from sun-up to sun-down.
To get the day started off on the right foot, grownups and kids will compete in the Firecracker 5K and Fun Run. The event will be hosted by the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office and Team Give Back. The race begins at 8 a.m. at the Visitors Center, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. To register early visit www.active.com.
Beginning at 10 a.m. the Dahlonega Car Club will host their annual Fourth of July Car Show on Courthouse Hill next to the Lumpkin County Administration Building. Music, food and drawings for door prizes are planned. The car show will conclude at 3 p.m.
The savory scent of delicious food will greet visitors as food trucks will be around Hancock Park beginning at 12 p.m. Menus will include hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue and more.
Crowds will gather around the Public Square to cheer on the annual Patriotic Parade. The parade will make its way through downtown beginning at 3 p.m.
After the conclusion of the parade, children can head over to Hancock Park for the Kids Adventure Zone at 4 p.m. Planned activities include face painting, caricatures and games.
Music will fill the air in Hancock Park. Visitors are invited to sit on the lawn or bring their chairs and enjoy the free Concert in the Park beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Last but not least, the skies above Dahlonega will be filled with the spectacular fireworks show at dark. The show is best viewed from the University of North Georgia’s Drill Field just down the road from the Public Square.
