The wait is over. Dahlonega has spoken and The Nugget has listened.   Readers made their selections and the votes have been counted in the newest edition of the Best of Lumpkin County contest.   It’s time to reveal the selections in our triple-size special section this week.

With the race for Dahlonega City Council well underway and early voting fast approaching, The Nugget recently posed several questions to Post 6 contenders for the first in our series of candidate Q&A's.

New Military Science Center coming to UNG

Symbolic ground was broken Saturday on a new $13.3 million Military Science Center for the University of North Georgia’s Corps of Cadets program.

Six Gap ride is ready to roll out Sunday

The Six Gap Century bike event, one of Georgia’s longest cycling challenges, will take place in Dahlonega for its 35th year on Sunday, September 24. The bike ride brings in over 2,000 cyclists riding across Lumpkin, White, and other counties to conquer the North Georgia mountains.

ConnectAbility 5K festivities return on Saturday

The annual ConnectAbility 5K will return to downtown streets on Saturday, Sept. 9.  Along with it, comes the long-awaited rematch of the Tortoise and the hare.  They will hopefully hop and/or crawl their way to the finish line on the outskirts of Hancock Park.

Students at Lumpkin County High School who are learning to be teachers have designed their own way to gain experience with educating young learners. And it has four wheels. Buses are nothing new at school.

The Board of Commissioners has voted to adopt a formal name for Lumpkin County’s newest recreational facility: the Pinetree Recreation Center. The $12.

Della Lago calls them the quiet superheroes. These are the local volunteers who give their time and energy to Enotah CASA, a regional division of the Georgia State Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. And right now, the non profit organization is in need of a few more heroes.

A brand new Whataburger is on the way to downtown Dahlonega. If all goes according to plan, the corner of Riley Road and Morrison Moore Parkway, known mostly for a longtime empty lot and plenty of kudzu, will be home to the popular fast food eatery famous for high-stacked burgers and “fancy ketchup.
