George Radcliffe "Cliffe" Rice III, 69, (born November 26, 1949) passed away at his home in Murrayville on Monday, Oct. 16, 2019 at 3:50 p.m. following an extended illness.
He was a former resident of Atlanta, Ga. (1949-1979) and Dahlonega, Ga.
He attended Mercer, Georgia State (1969-1972) and graduated from Rollins College in 1973.
George, who was commonly known as Cliffe, by his friends and family had mostly retired from his Publishing company Piney Mountain Press, Inc., by 2019. Prior to starting his company in 1976, Cliffe worked as a top performing Insurance Agent for Fidelity Life Insurance Company and won awards and trips for his sales achievements. Prior to the Insurance business Cliffe served as a research planner for a prominent environmental design firm in Orlando, Fla.
During his 40+ years as President and CEO of Piney Mountain Press, Cliffe copyrighted over 200 educational products for Special Administrators, Teachers and Students, and set up and participated in numerous educational foundations and scholarship programs for Special Challenged Populations.
After retirement his hobbies included collecting and playing vintage brass instruments and restoring them to their former glory. He also enjoyed writing poetry and songs, along with gardening and landscaping.
He was preceded in death by brother: Franklin Eugene Rice. Mother: Ann Thomas Rice, Father: George R. Rice II.
Cliffe's survivors include his wife Lisa, son Garrison Radcliffe Rice of Lawrenceville, son Keats Noble (Forest) Rice and grandson, Oakson Scott Rice of Cleveland, Ga., brother, Herman Thomas Rice, sister-in-law Julie Murray Rice of Decatur, Ga.; cousin Martha Thomas of Macon, Ga., stepson and daughter-in-law Justin & Kailey Holloway, grandsons Declan and Avery of Flowery Branch, Ga., stepson Jeremy Kent Holloway of Murrayville, Ga. Mother-in-law Geraldine Grizzel of Murrayville Ga., Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Jan Grizzel of Murrayville, Ga., Sister -in-law and brother-in-law Elaine and Don Abercrombie of Murrayville Ga., Sister-in- law and brother-in-law Sandy and Billy Jenkins of Murrayville, Ga., Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Barry and Elisabeth Grizzel of Murrayville, Ga., 9 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews along with various cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, November 23 at Dahlonega Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Colladay officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cliffe's name to American Cancer Society.
