Construction worker Cameron Beaver guides from the ground as the dome for UNG's new Astronomical Observatory is lowered into position by a crane on Friday morning.

The new $1.4 million building has been in the works since its approval in January 2019. Dr. Gregory Feiden, astronomy professor and director of the observatory said the new facility offers "more flexibility in terms of community programming.

We'll be able to host a wider variety of events, in addition to public viewings." The structure is set to be complete in late July.
