Senior wrestler Nolan Wheeler hoists his opponent in the air before slamming him onto the mat in his second match of the Area Duals at Dawson County High School on Saturday. After defeating Dawson in the opening round 54-20, the Indians faced North Hall, who came in to the event as the heavy favorite. Lumpkin fought back from an early deficit with a pin from Trevor Coryell, Wheeler’s 1-0 victory and an 11-6 victory from Levi Seabolt. Sam Irwin pinned his heavyweight opponent to tie the match before Ethan Kline battled through multiple overtime periods before finally slamming his opponent and earning the win and giving Lumpkin the lead. However the lead was short lived as North Hall fought back with five straight pins to hand the Indians their first loss of the day. Forced to then run the table to earn a berth in the state tournament, Lumpkin beat Westminster before falling to Fannin.
