Middle school tennis undefeated going into final week

The LCMS tennis team continued to flex its muscles on the tennis court when they defeated Tallulah Falls and Gilmer County last week to remain undefeated at 7-0 with just three regular season matches remaining in the 2019 season.
The Indians and Lady Indians started last week by hosting Tallulah Falls at the LCHS Tennis Complex on Monday, Sept. 9, before traveling to Gilmer County to face off with the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Both the Indians and the Lady Indians easily cruised to victories versus both Tallulah Falls and Gilmer, improving their season record to 7-0.
“We are very happy with the results so far,” said LCMS head girls tennis coach Alan Hogan. “Being undefeated is a good feeling, but we must take care to stay focused and to continue to work hard.  We are adding some more advanced drills to our practices and the players are responding well.  The skill level is definitely improving.”
LCMS head boys tennis coach Adam Rambin also believes that his players are having an outstanding 2019 season and thinks his team’s success is based in their attitudes towards practice and matches.
“We are in a good place in the season - practices are going well, we are getting lots of tennis in and we want to finish strong and maintain our momentum,” said Rambin. “It is a good feeling to know that our players are having success against other teams, but we are most proud of our students and their sportsmanship and leadership characteristics that they have built over the season.”
With both the Indians and Lady Indians being undefeated this season, both Hogan and Rambin feel that this may be one of the best teams in the program’s history.
“Last year’s boys team was undefeated,” Hogan said. “Our girls lost two matches last year, but both teams won the Mountain League Championship. It is probably true that at this point we are having our best season since Coach Rambin and I took over the program.”
“This is certainly the largest group of middle school players we have had on the team, and ability wise probably our best as well,” Rambin said. “We are just lucky to have a lot of interest and a phenomenal group of parents backing us up. Without great parent support, it is hard to operate as a team. It has been an incredible season and we look forward to finishing strong.”
At press time, the LCMS tennis team was set to host White County at the LCHS Tennis Complex on Monday, Sept. 16. No official results were available.
With the season coming to an end this week, the LCMS Indians and Lady Indians will try to stay undefeated when they take to the court at Tallulah Falls today, Sept. 18. Matches are set to begin at 4:15 p.m.
