The sharp shooting continued for the Lumpkin County High School rifle team as they won the Area Six Championship and advanced to State.
The keen-eyed crew took on Parkview in the finals and came away with a big win.
In doing so, the Indians ended their regular season undefeated.
To start the event, the team began in the prone position.
The team had a trio of leaders who all shot for the same score. Liv Lusky, Maddy Moyer, and Brynn Foster hit an impressive 99/100.
Laura Hoch and J.T. Wright followed up by shooting 94s.
Lumpkin totaled a first round score to 485.
Parkview scored 466 total as their top shooter Dominic Dauge shot a perfect round, but the combined talent of the Indians led to a 19-point lead.
The second round saw the teams compete in the standing position.
Lusky and Moyer had a score of 97 each. Foster followed with an 88.
Wright scored a 90, while Hoch picked up an 89.
The Indians totaled a score of 461 for the round, compared with Parkview’s 432.
The third and final round saw Moyer and Lusky both shoot a score of 99.
Hoch and Wright both shot for 96, while Foster followed up with a 95.
The team totaled 486, as opposed to Parkview’s 428.
Overall for the event, Lusky and Moyer shot for 295, Foster followed up with 282, Wright finished with 280, and Hoch scored 279.
The team shot for 1,431 total, while Lumpkin’s top four combined for 1,152.
Parkview ultimately shot for 1,326 as they fell to the Indians.
Lumpkin County’s Maddy Moyer finished in first place, and Liv Lusky finished in second individually with the highest averages of the season for the entire region.
As a team, Lumpkin County finished first, Tallulah Falls took second, North Gwinnett was third, Buford was fourth, Parkview was fifth, and Dawson County was sixth in the region.
The Lumpkin team is projected to compete against Midtown Grady next week in the State Sectionals.
