The Lumpkin County High School wrestling program had a busy week during the Thanksgiving break with the team battling tough competitors.
The Indians traveled to the Buford Invitational on Saturday, November 19.
The Lumpkin varsity squad earned 11th out of 19. The team was led by second place finisher Kerwin Martinez and sixth place finishers Hayden Roy, TJ Payne, and Geo Hernandez.
The JV team earned a 15th place finish and was led by placers Michael Nichols and Nolan Matthews.
The Indians then traveled to Powder Springs to compete in the Hillgrove Duals.
Lumpkin earned team wins over McEachern 72-12, Pope 46-36, Dade County 57-20, and Blessed Trinity (to take 3rd place) 57-21. Lumpkin fell to Woodward 39-30.
Undefeated wrestlers for Lumpkin were Austin Marshall and TJ Payne.
The Lumpkin JV squad competed in the Flowery Branch JV Duals on Wednesday, November 23.
Lumpkin won its first match against Collins Hill 45-36. Michael Nichols earned come from behind victory 4-2.
The Indians topped Discovery 55-18. Earning wins by pin were Greta Garbuzovas, Hayden Roy, and Peyton O’Kelly.
LCHS will return to action on November 12 when it travels to Lawrenceville for the Archer Varsity Scramble.
