The LCHS Cross Country team went for one last tune up before tomorrow’s Region Tournament race last Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Tallulah Falls with both the boys and girls teams claiming a fourth place finish overall in their respective categories.
“We used this meet as another opportunity to run a course that has similar terrain that the Region course has at Unicoi,” said head coach Logan Turner. “Our kids had a much better showing this week, and I’m confident we’ll go into this last week of the season with the same hunger and desire to make it state that we had back in June.”
The girls were led by senior Abbie Hilchie once again, who claimed seventh place overall in the girls division with a time of 22:24, while the boys were led by freshman Wyatt Windham, who placed 10th overall with a time of 17:56.
Turner said the race has him filled with confidence heading into the region tournament.
“Our theme for this year has been ‘Believe’ and that’s what everyone on this team has done since the season has started,” he said. “These kids never cease to amaze me with their drive and dedication to constantly improve themselves and their teammates which is why we’re in the position that we’re in. Pressure is a privilege.”
The Indians will take the course at Unicoi State Park for their Region Tournament race today, Oct. 27 with only four spots at the State Meet on the line.
