Someone stole Shaquille O’Neal’s brand new SUV. And investigators from the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office are working hard to find the culprits.
“The location it was taken to was apparently in Atlanta,” said Sheriff Stacy Jarrard on Friday afternoon. “We have leads on people of interest out of this location. And we have search warrants.”
The NBA Hall of Famer’s new 2025 Range Rover wound up in Lumpkin County after an auto broker recently arranged to have the vehicle shipped to a local custom auto shop.
From the sound of it, the seven-foot-tall superstar was just looking for a little more legroom.
“The vehicle was there to have modifications done to the front seat area, to move it back some,” said Jarrard. “And then the towing company picked up the vehicle on October 20th to take it on to the next location.”
However, the SUV never arrived back with its owner.
LCSO investigators received word of the possible theft on Monday. By Friday they were able to obtain search warrants in the case. Though Jarrard said he didn’t want to reveal further details of the case at this point because of investigative reasons.
“I can tell you I’m very impressed with the way the investigators here at Lumpkin County worked on this,” he said.
In the meantime, Jarrard said investigators talked to O’Neal by phone in order to get a statement.
“He was hopeful to get the vehicle back,” said Jarrard. “And he was really hopeful that someone would be held accountable for the theft and was going to jail. And we’ll do everything we can possibly do to make that happen.”
