The ballots are in and Tony Owens has emerged as the clear Post 1 victor in the lone contested race for Dahlonega City Council.
The local business owner managed to garner 434 votes (68 percent) while fellow businessman Tom Gordineer notched a total of 204 ballots (32 percent) on Tuesday night.
Owens and Gordineer were vying for the current seat of longtime council member Roman Gaddis, who is opting to step down when his third term is complete at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, in uncontested City races, former mayor Sam Norton will be current mayor once again as 100 percent of votes went towards the downtown business owner. This will be Norton’s second term as mayor after he opted not to run for re-election in 2022.
Current mayor JoAnne Taylor chose not to run for a second term and will step down at the end of the year.
Council members Ryan Reagin and Ross Shirley faced no opposition and were both reelected for second terms.
