Library Report ----- Have you ever been curious about your local history? Wondered how people one hundred, even two hundred years ago carried out their daily lives? With the Lumpkin County Library, you’ll wonder no longer.
On Thursday, September 1 from 9:00-10:00 AM, the library will be offering a free introductory presentation on the archival materials we have stored in our genealogy vault.
In this course, we will discuss not only the materials themselves, but the historical context surrounding them. Learn about weaving patterns from the 1800’s, a journal chronicling the life of a prominent local citizen over the span of nearly four decades, and letters from some of the most well-known figures in the community.
At the end, a scavenger hunt for the archives will be handed out for those who would like to participate.
Admission to this presentation is completely free and registration is not required. Come by the library and discover your history like you’ve never seen it before.

‘Yoga to Thrive’ class returns to library August 20

The Lumpkin County Library would like to invite you to attend the next “Yoga to Thrive” class this Saturday, August 20, from 10:00–11:00 a.m.
Yoga to Thrive is for any adult 18 or older and for all experience levels.
This class is not recommended as part of a pregnancy regimen.
The class will consist of low impact yoga postures that gradually warm up muscles, joints, and connective tissues.
The class will be led by Registered Yoga teacher, Martha Dickerson, owner/instructor of Yahoola Yoga Studio, who encourages community members to come to the library and give yoga a try.
No registration is required for this free class, which is held on the third Saturday of every month.
Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat and a small blanket or towel.
Please call the library at 706-864-3668 for further information or details.

Temporary extended hours in September and October

The Chestatee Regional Library System would like to announce temporarily extended hours for the months of September and October for both the Lumpkin County and Dawson County branches.
Beginning Tuesday, September 6, and running through Tuesday, October 25, library hours will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
Our hope is that we can offer some evening hours on a more permanent basis in the future. However, current staffing levels allow us to do so only on this temporary basis, as current staff hours must be shifted in order to do so.
Our normal schedule will resume on Wednesday, October 26.
We look forward to serving Dahlonega /Dawsonvilleand Lumpkin/Dawson County students as they begin another school year.
