An urgent manhunt is underway in the area around Mt. Olive Church Road after the attempted arrest of Gerardo Jonathan Flowers resulted in gunfire on Sunday afternoon, according to officials from the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.
“The suspect is shooting at the officers and has fled from his vehicle into the woods,” stated a post on the LCSO Facebook page.
Lt. Alan Roach has reported that no deputies were harmed.
The area is under heavy surveillance by authorities with tracking dogs on the ground and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter in the air.
“The suspect is extremely dangerous and has shot toward the officers,” stated the post. “Please avoid this area and if you live in this area please lock up your property and call 911 if you see anyone entering your property.”
Flowers is reportedly wanted on charged out of Hall and Habersham counties.
