The familiar blur of pumping pedals and spinning spokes is returning to the roads of Lumpkin County this Sunday as Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty rolls on once again.
The race officially kicks off at the parking lot of Lumpkin County High School at 8 a.m. as the cyclists head through the northern mountain roads of the county. Though there will be some differences this year.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Robb Nichols said that new ride director Joe Coddington has implemented a list of logistical improvements which include new signage and the "flipping' of the upper Six Gap loop during which Six Gap cyclists will climb HogPen Gap.”
There will also be a new philanthropic twist to the pedaling proceedings.
“Each cyclist had the opportunity to donate a dollar or more to our new charity partner Gallant Few’s Patriot Challenge which benefits U.S. Army Rangers past, present, and future,” said Nichols.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Stacy Jarrard took to Facebook earlier this week to warn drivers to be ready for plenty of bikes on the roadway.
“Just know that there will be slow traffic on the north end of Dahlonega,” he said.
On Monday, Nichols was quick to point out that the LCSO, local law enforcement and volunteers are vital for the event.
“This ride wouldn’t be successful without the great support of the Lumpkin, White, Towns, and Union County Sheriff’s Offices and EMS services and the many incredible volunteers who staff our check-in tents on Saturday and Sunday and the many rest stops and medical stops we have on the 100 mile course,” he said.
