University of North Georgia men’s golfer Grant Crowell shot a final round 71 as the No. 4 Nighthawks climbed two spots to 11th in the final round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championships on a rainy Wednesday at TPC Michigan.
Crowell finished in a tie for 11th place individually in the program’s first appearance at the national finals.
He had five birdies on the day, including four on the front nine.
Crowell finished at 5-over for the week, including two eagles in the first two rounds.
Behind Crowell was Evan Thompson, who also earned a top 30 finish, ending in a tie for 29th place at 10-over after shooting even-par in the final round.
Thompson shot three-under on the back nine to break even in the final round.
Stephen Kinsel put together his best round of the week in the final round as well, finishing three-over on the day to end the tournament 13-over par, which was good enough for a top 50 finish, tied for 46.
Hughes Threlkeld was next for the Nighthawks, rebounding from a tough Day 2 to shoot five-over par on the final day, clinching a tie for 65th place with a score of +16.
Threlkeld’s best day was Day 1 of the tournament, shooting two-over par with three birdies on the day.
Noah Zediker also had to rebound from a tough Day 2, doing so with a +8 finish to bring him to an overall score of +29, which was good enough for a tie for 100th place in the tournament overall.
Much like Threlkeld, Zediker also had his best day of the tournament in Round 1, shooting seven-over for the round.
The Nighthawks shot the second best round of the day on Wednesday at seven-over, finishing just three shots outside of the top 10.
Central Missouri claimed the top seed in the medal match play portion of the event, while Missouri-St. Louis’s Joel Sylven won the individual national championship in a one hole playoff.
With the exception of of Crowell, a redshirt senior, the Nighthawks bring back their entire roster, including Kinsel, Zediker and Thompson, who are all sophomores and Threlkeld, who is a freshman.
