When wrestlers representing each state in America arrive this weekend in Fargo for the 2022 U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals to do battle, Lumpkin County will be represented.
Both rising junior Austin Marshall and rising sophomore Nathan Nielsen qualified to represent Team Georgia in the 16U Cadet division at Nationals, which are set to begin on Friday, July 15.
Marshall will be representing Team Georgia in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman in the 132-pound weight class.
Nielsen will be doing the same at the 138-pound weight class.
Both Nielsen and Marshall are familiar with the big stage at the state level, as the two represented Lumpkin County High School at the Macon Coliseum in the Individual State tournament earlier this year.
However, now in the offseason, the two are taking on a new level, reaching nationals to be held at the massive Fargodome in North Dakota.
Marshall managed to qualify for Nationals back on April 23, with a fourth place finish in Freestyle and a second place finish in Greco-Roman at the Fargo Cadet Qualifier at North Paulding High School.
After just missing the cut, with only the top four qualifying for nationals, at the North Paulding qualifier with two fifth place finishes, Nielsen punched his ticket to Fargo with an emphatic performance at the May 7 qualifier at Troup County High School, finishing the day with two first place finishes.
