-Rifle team downs Riverside Military Academy
The LCHS rifle team took down Riverside Military Academy (RMA) by shooting for its best score of the 2018-19 season when the two teams squared off for competition on Thursday, Jan. 25.
The Indians received another stellar performance from senior shooter Ashley Goike when the team squared off with RMA for Lumpkin’s seventh match of the season. Goike earned Top Gun honors at the competition with a score of 289, a point shy of the State qualifying score of 290.
Junior Colby Craddock turned in a solid round of shooting at the match. Craddock earned the second highest score for the Indians at the competition with a score of 281.
Sophomore Megan Williamson continued to show improvement on the range with a score of 275 during the match.
True freshmen Justice Turner and Ansley Gilstrap each put in solid efforts at the event. Turner shot for a score of 278 and Gilstrap shot for a score of 273 to round out the top five shooters for Lumpkin on the day.
The combined efforts of the Lumpkin shooters allowed the Indians to best RMA by a final score of 1,123-1,091. The score marked the best recorded by the team this season.
“We have a young team that is hungry and is working hard to increase their scores,” said LCHS rifle team head coach Ron Fugate. “I have seen a huge improvement in all five of our young guns.”
The LCHS rifle team will get back into action when they take to the range to shoot it out with the Gainesville Red Elephants at the UNG rifle range on Monday, February 18.
